Pantone have chosen well for their 2020 colour of the year and there is general consensus that classic blue is solid and reliable.
Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.
Pantone
When I see this classic blue colour, I think how perfect it is for the majority of skin tones. It is a mid-toned classic that won’t overwhelm even the lightest of colouring.
It’s light softness is especially beautiful for summers. Remember Kate Middleton’s engagement dress!
She choose the colour wisely to convey the message that she was a reliable, steady and classic choice to marry Prince William and in my mind she has kept her word and brought class, style and stability to the royal family.
Here are 3 great reasons why I think you should follow Kate’s lead and add classic blue to your wardrobe:
- Blue is a far people friendlier colour than black so you will immediately appear more approachable and friendly when you wear it. Blue calls to mind feelings of calmness and serenity. It is often seen as a sign of stability and reliability. That’s why many sales people wear blue shirts to build rapport and trustworthiness. I often recommend that blue is a good colour for interview situations.
- Classic blue is considered a neutral colour and will work beautifully with pretty much every other colour in your wardrobe. It will be especially nice with light and bright colours. To create a more exciting combination, choose classic blue and a bright like canary yellow or for something more soothing and traditional pair it with a light colour like off white or peach. Here is a video I prepared with more recommendations on pairing classic blue (navy).
- Classic blue will never go out of fashion. Just today, several people told me that they had classic blue items in their wardrobe for years and they plan on pulling them out to be bang on trend. A classic blue winter coat, a classic blue shift dress or wrap dress are timeless items that will work for you for many years to come. I consider these wardrobe hero’s that will ensure you always have something appropriate to wear so its well worth spending on the best quality you can afford.
Will you be adding Pantone’s colour of the year to your wardrobe or are you already sorted with your quota of classic blue?
